Marcus Lions is a British artist with a background in environmental activism and startups, experiences which have shaped his understanding of human agency and given him the skills to navigate the structures that underpin the cultural field.
His artwork explores the universal aspects of lived experience, presenting life as both an active choice and a terminal process, and how human connection can offer liberation from systems of control.
Lions highlights these ideas through time-based works, often linked to his own lifespan, mixing temporary and permanent elements, and using the artist’s death as a deliberate compositional device.
Having earned a BA (Honours) in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, he was recently awarded a place on the MFA Fine Art programme at Goldsmiths, London. In this next stage of his practice, he will create work that connects with private collectors and public institutions, contributes to the wider cultural conversation, and builds a lasting place within conceptual art.
